My Students

First graders are an awful lot of fun, but it takes a certain level of creativity to keep them engaged. My kids have been labeled as students of "low income status" at a "highest poverty" school. My kiddos are full of heart, and they really care about each other. My goal is to make sure they know that I care about them too.

My students often have to take their crayons and pencils home with them every night just so they are able to do their homework and play.

Overcoming their labels of being "in need," my kids are some of the most caring students I have ever met. They really look out for each other and make sure that everyone gets included in activities. My school may not be the most wealthy, but it tries hard to act like a family.

My Project

Students will use these book and CD sets during daily stations. Students will be excited to read about familiar characters, songs, and stories. By playing the CD, students will be exposed to the proper phrasing and fluency structures of stories. Students will be able to hear what they should sound like when they read alone.

Dependable listening stations foster confident and independent readers.

Students aren't very excited about reading an old book with yellow pages while listening to an old cassette tape that they had to have help to use. Students become excited when they are able to use up-to-date technology all by themselves. With these new CD sets, students can independently choose the story they want to read, start the CD, and enjoy.
