Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am an ENL co-teacher for a Bilingual 5th and 6th-grade class. We primarily teach ELA and Math with this group while another teacher switches with us for science and social studies. All of the students are classified as English Language Learners and roughly 15 of them have an IEP/504. Dedicated and kind, these students are navigating the world in two languages. These students will grow up to be amazing bi-literate individuals but learning two languages at the same time can be tricky. However, their perseverance always astounds me.

My Project

We have created a listening station in our classroom to allow students to access the text online. Many students struggle to read and we would like them to have a chance to listen to the text first before being asked to read.

We have created audio recordings of the text but students need individual headphones to access the materials without disturbing other students in the class.

With these headphones we can create a station in the room that will help our struggling readers as well as create an environment where students can focus on their individual tasks at other stations.
