My Students

Listening to someone read is one of the top ways to become a great reader. In our listening center right now my kids spend most of their time figuring out how to rewind a tape and which side it should be on. The solution books on CD to go with our donated CD player!

I have 17-20 4-6 year olds each year in kindergarten.

They come from middle and low income homes. Our school is in a county system with limited funds. My students are eager to learn to read. The last two years 100% of my students that went to first grade could read, and that was in part due to listening to reading. I want to be able to say three years after this coming year.

My Project

I am requesting sets of books and CDs for use in our listening center. Another teacher donated CD players and the students bring their own headphones so all we are missing are the books and CDs. The students will then be able to visit our loft listening center and listen to a book of the week and complete an activity on it. With this kit I will have centers through the first half of school.

Learning to read will impact the rest of the students life.

Every thing they do will involve reading. Their success will be based on their ability to read. Providing these materials to my students will make them better readers and set them up for success.
