Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach 2nd grade in a low economic district where 98% of the students receive free lunch. My class is a low performing group of students who try their best each and everyday. Additional support is necessary however in order for them to be successful.

Disadvantaged students start the school year with a lack of supplies and home-based educational support. Our school doesn't always have adequate funding to provide various materials for all students. These students have the potential to progress academically, but with limited resources their chances of succeeding are minimal.

A listening center is instrumental in motivating low functioning students to exceed beyond what is typically expected of them. Mathematical games, phonics practice and comprehension strategies are included in the items that I have requested. Students would be able to work independently on these much needed skills. Technology such as this will help them to progress at grade level and succeed.

I am confident that if my proposal is accepted my students will have a fighting chance at succeeding in the 2nd grade. These materials will allow them to be prepared for 3rd testing and will empower them to not only believe in themselves, but achieve academic success--LISTENING SUCCESS!
