My Students

My students come to school speaking many languages. In some cases English is not one of them. So imagine spending 6 hours a day in school and not understand one word said. This is what my students face everyday.

My students attend kindergarten in a NY public school.

They come from many different backgrounds. They all face the challenge of learning to read this year. Most of the class go home where English is not spoken. This is a challenge for them as the learn how to read and write.

My Project

My goal is to set up a listening center. I have books on CD and tapes. I want my students to be able to listen to books on tape as a tool to help them read. Being able to listen to books on tape helps students in ways you can't imagine. First for students who are learning the language they will beginning to hear intricacies of how our language is spoken. Another help for students learning to read is cassette tapes that are paired with their book which will be a way for students to follow

Reading is fundamental to all students being successful in a school setting.

As a Kindergarten teacher I am trying to be using the audio devices I am trying to use the students multiple intelligences in teaching them to read.
