This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Untangling headphone wires every single day is not fun! The literacy center materials are used at least once a day and never put back properly by my 5 year olds. We need an audio pod (listening center) to help keep our headphones/books and cds organized!

My students are the greatest co-workers!

I simply enjoy going to work and being a part of their lives each day. They amaze me from things that they say and also do on a daily basis. They attend public school and some have special needs. As a CTT special education teacher, I make sure all of my students interact with each other. I make sure to integrate students with special needs and general education students within the classroom. When other teachers come into the classroom they can not tell which students have special needs. This is because all of my students are included in every activity and partnerships are mixed.

My Project

Right now we do not have a proper listening center to store books/cds and headphones. We store all of this on a rolling cart and call it a listening center. This is why wires get tangled everyday when our students use it. Students love this center, but feel discouraged to use it because of the mess it creates. I cannot blame them for not being able to clean up properly and untangle the wires because it's a hard task for us (adults) to do. If we had the rolling audio pod we could store headphones properly and keep wires untangled. There is a specific place for books and cds to be kept. We could then show our students where every material belongs and eventually they would be able to use the center and clean up all on their own. Right now time is wasted by us having to untangle wires. This rolling audio pod would also save time, which could be spent on other activities/lessons in our classroom.

By funding this project my students will be able to independently use the listening center whenever they want to.

It is important to use the listening center because comprehension skills are acquired when a child can hear a story read to them while looking at the pictures. Although academics are important it is not the only benefit of the listening center. Children also learn to be independent by knowing where all the materials are kept and how to use/clean them up.
