My Students

My Kindergarten and First Grade Autistic students have many needs. They come to my classroom with many challenges most of which are beyond their control. This listening center will broaden their horizons and enrich their lives. They will be introduced to the wonderful world of books too.

Our school services children from different countries, neighborhoods and backgrounds.

They come to us sometimes hungry, under dressed and needing comfort. They come to school with the desire to learn and grow. It is hard to meet some of their needs because our schools are underfunded. My students are autistic and vary from verbal to nonverbal. They need the opportunity to experience different worlds through the magic of books.

My Project

The listening center will provide the students will a variety of books to choose and learn from. It will provide them the chance to recognize letters of the alphabet, the sounds that letters make, how sounds blend together to make words and how words form sentences.

This listening center will provide my students with the opportunity to learn that there is a whole world beyond the streets and communities they see every day in Philadelphia.

It will provide them with the chance to discover and dream about places and people they might someday get the opportunity to meet.
