My Students

Reading is essential for all children. I would love for the children to have the opportunity during literacy centers to choose stories of interest to them as well as at their levels. Ultimately, I would like to lend the stories and CD players to the children to enjoy at night.

Our school has a very high poverty population.

Many of my children do not have opportunities to read at home unless books are lent to them as there aren't any books in their homes. My goal is always to expose the children to as many literacy experiences throughout the day as possible.

My Project

The children will be able to choose stories on cd to listen to during literacy centers that are at their interest level as well as their reading level. I'm also hoping to loan them out nightly. Exposing my students to books throughout the day is essential for their growth.

By having individual CD players, each child is able to choose their own books rather than listening to one story within a group that may not be the best reading level for them.

Each child is an individual learner, it is important that the are able to choose stories that they have an interest in. Reading should be fun. I believe when children can make choices about what they are reading, they enjoy reading more!
