My Students

As a kindergarten teacher, my job is to instill a love of reading in my students. We only have a short amount of time during the day dedicated to reading aloud, but my students love to have books read to them.

I teach at a small, rural school in Arkansas.

My students come from very diverse backgrounds. My students are developing a love for learning and reading. They work hard every day to grow themselves. I am blessed to work with the kindergarten ESL population. My students are loving and sweet. They encourage each other to work through problems and it makes me want to be a better teacher for them every day.

My Project

My students rotate through centers each afternoon. With this listening center, my students will have the opportunity to grow their phonological awareness by listening to the story while they follow along in the text. I have several books with cds that my students will be able to read along with once we have this resource in our classroom. In addition, my students will be exposed to a larger variety of text as I only have a limited amount of time to read aloud to them daily. This center will allow me to record my voice reading books beyond their independent reading levels and will give them the opportunity to interact with books that they may not otherwise be able to read.

Our listening center will provide my students with the opportunity to interact with text that is on a higher level.

Listening to text read by various people exposes them to the way that tone and inflection changes the meaning of a text. This center will not only allow them to experience text in a different way, but it will also broaden their understanding of how reading creates meaning.
