Listening Center to Foster Fluency

My students need headphones, a junction box and stories on CD to work in small reading groups.

My Students

Having a listening center that my students can use independently to help them become proficient readers would be amazing. Listening to books on CD or tape is always a favorite center for kids regardless of their grade level.

In the past two years my district has increased class size from 20 third grade students to 31.

With 31 kids in a classroom it is vital that I teach small groups to meet the needs of all my students. While teaching my small group I want my kids to be engaged in something meaningful.

My Project

I would love to have a listening center to help with this vision. The students who are’t in my small group can listen to Cd's of stories that will help them hear correct pronunciation, pacing, and intonation. Students will be exposed to more words, thus expanding their vocabularies, creating stronger readers.

Reading is the foundation to everything we do in and out of school.

A listening center and Cd's with text at their level would give me a chance to teach small reading groups while still meeting the needs and challenging the group that is working independently.
