My Students

First grade is an exciting year for children that is filled with lots of learning and growth! My classroom is a fun, vibrant place where children make huge gains in their reading and writing development throughout the year!

My students are eager and excited to learn every day at school!

Teaching is such an exciting adventure because no two days are ever the same! The 6 and 7 year old boys and girls I teach have very diverse cultural, economic, academic, language, and emotional needs. My school is a fantastic place where the students meet every day to learn with and from one another! My students work hard every day at school to become better readers...providing the classroom resources to help them strengthen their skills provides endless benefits!

My Project

My students look forward to the time they get to spend each day in literacy centers working on becoming stronger readers and writers. Listening center buckets with iPods and books will be a perfect addition to the daily literacy centers in my first grade classroom. My first graders will be able to sit anywhere in the classroom with their listening center bucket and curl up to listen to books being read to them! The sound effects, music, and different voices will engage students and motivate them to follow along as the words on the page come alive during the story. Favorite books can be listened to again and again! Students will learn and practice valuable listening skills, print concepts, word recognition, and listen to fluent reading.

Having a reliable, organized listening center in my classroom will allow my students to select stories that interest them, hear books being read fluently, track print, and most importantly, ENJOY READING!
