My Students

I have a wonderful group of kindergartners who are beginning their journey into reading. My students love to listen to stories when I read them. A great way to support their introduction to reading is to have a listening center so they can listen to stories while they follow along with a book.

I have 24 kindergartners who are eager to learn.

For many of my students, kindergarten is their first school experience and I want to make sure that they learn to love school. In our school, 57% of the students receive free or reduced price meals. Our school has recently lost a lot of funding and we are facing challenges fulfilling each classroom's basic needs.

My Project

I want to have a listening center in my class so my kindergartners will be able to listen to their favorite stories. Listening to stories is a great model for reading fluently. My children can listen individually or in small groups and then have a discussion about the story. Listening to stories helps with comprehension, vocabulary, and sequencing. It is one of the best ways to enjoy literacy activities.
