Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Kids love when people read to them. How much fun would it be to sit with your friends and listen to the same book being read and being able to follow along with a book? A listening center will accomplish that.

I have a classroom of 24 students.

The majority are English Language Learners who receive free or reduced lunch. The come from homes where both parents work and the kids become latch key kids or spend a lot of time with babysitters. My students love learning but do not always have access to resources that encourage them to learn at their full capacity. I have a couple of students who attend speech class and 2 that attend our Learning Center for a portion of the day.

My Project

This project will allow 8 children to listen to a story at the same time. Many of my students do not have books at home and/or do not have family members who read to them. Many of my students also struggle with English and are low readers. Listening to stories gives them vocabulary and allows them to hear pronunciation, proper grammar, and gives them concepts of print without the pressure of having to read out loud. They can listen to the story several times before they are faced with having to read out loud. It also is a quiet center that the kids can be engaged in while I work with other children.

With your support, you will help children become better and more confident readers.

You will provide a center where the children are engaged in a fun and academic experience, while I work with other children in the class.
