This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My class is full of bright-eyed, beautiful children who are excited to learn. The majority of them are low-income and many of them are coming to pre-kindergarten/Kindergarten already behind. They are ready and eager to learn new things and to have new experiences.
Our school is located in the city of Detroit and we are a Title I school where all of the students in the school qualify for free lunch.
Many of our students eat breakfast at school as well. This is the beginning of their educational experience and I want to make sure they have everything they need to be successful.
My Project
Headphones are necessary for student learning in my classroom. Everyday kindergarten students go online to work on their individualized lessons on iReady. Headphones would lessen the background noise and allow them to focus on their work. These lessons include a number of phonics as well as phonological awareness activities which are nearly impossible to do correctly without headphones to hear precisely what is being said.
These headphones are essential for student learning using iReady as well as for our listening center.
Students will be able to select a story to listen to independently. This project will definitely increase student learning in my classroom as well as instill in my students a desire to read and learn more.
