My Students

Remember sitting with your mom or dad listening to them read your favorite book at bedtime? Well, that is one of my fondest childhood memory. I want to give a similar memory to my first grade class. Increasing the number of books in our classroom listening center is a way to do that.

First graders love books!

First graders love to be read to! A well stocked listening center fulfills both these loves for my first grade students. I have a enthusiastic class of first graders. These children are loving and caring. They are eager to learn all they can. One of their favorite literacy centers is our listening center. Our class does not have an extensive listening library. They listen to the same 12 books over and over. They never complain, they are just excited to have a chance to listen to a book. My students come from hard working families. Sometimes it isn't possible for these families to come together and read every night. That is why it is so important for these students get an opportunity to listen to books.

My Project

By increasing our listening library, my students will get the chance to be exposed to more literature. The listening library I have requested is a wonderful mix of non-fiction, fiction, and leveled readers. This will cover a variety of needs for my students. It will enhance their love and appreciation for non-fiction texts. By giving them the opportunity to read a variety of fiction books, they will be able to improve their fluency, comprehension, and writing. By listening and reading along with leveled readers, the students will become more proficient readers. My students love their listening center and use it everyday. Please help us become better readers by expanding our listening center! Reading is a building block to success. My students work hard everyday. I love when I have the opportunity to provide them with activities that are fun, while engaging them in learning. Our listening center is one of those activities.
