This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember hearing a story come to life for the first time?

Our students are second graders at a charter school in New York City.

While our school is not brand new, we are still in the process of growing and changing. We have 24 students in our class and many of them receive free breakfast and lunch each day. Many of our students come from dual language homes and it is vital that they receive experiences with literacy throughout the day. One of the ways we provide this is through our listening center!

My Project

The listening center makes the students feel like they are doing something special, while they are getting the necessary skills to become fluent readers. The listening center I am requesting is easy for young children to use and will save me time in helping them use the broken one we currently have.

While my students are at the listening center, I can conduct critical guided reading groups with students and know that the students who are not working with me are getting the same high caliber reading time.
