We are so moved by the continued support that the DonorsChoose.org community gives us. The generosity of others inspires us daily and we are truly blessed.
My students live in a high poverty and high crime neighborhood in Philadelphia.
The basic needs we take for granted are not being met on a daily basis. As if this struggle was not enough to deal with, they are exposed to the reality of crime and drug use that haunts their neighborhood.
Despite all of the adversity, my students want to succeed and to compete on a level playing field with their peers. The needs are great but they are willing to work hard.
Headphones are a necessity in our classroom. My students need these requested Sony headphones to complete daily interactive lessons. All of the lessons are differentiated so students perform on their own level. In order to focus and participate in the lesson, they need to hear the instructions or reading passages.
Reading and Listening comprehension is a large part of our instruction, we need headphones to make this happen.
Students often listen to literature and nonfiction text to increase comprehension. This helps students internalize the information and results in greater understanding and more complex thinking.
Students also prepare Google slides and presentations with sound so they need headphones to work on their own projects and not disrupt the lessons other classmates are completing.
