My Students

Can you imagine trying to enjoy a book that you might not be able to read?

My students come from high poverty neighborhoods.

We are a Charter school in Philadelphia. My students have a wonderful desire to learn. They are eager to always read something new. A listening center would enable all of the students the ability to enjoy a book.

My Project

A listening center will allow as many as eight students at a time to listen to the same book. A listening center will enable students to enjoy a book that otherwise might be too hard to be read independently. Listening to books read aloud is effective in building fluency and comprehension. They will be able to hear appropriate examples of fluency and expression and follow along with the modeled text to help with word recognition. During center time, the listening center will be a valuable resource for my reading students that they will be excited to use.

The listening center equipment will engage all of my students in quality reading materials.

No matter what reading level they have achieved, my students will be thrilled to listen to a book with other students and then engage in discussion and activities to build comprehension and fluency.
