My Students

Kindergarten students would be happy to listen to their teacher read stories all day. They even love to hear the same stories again and again. Great storytellers, readers, and writers begin by listening to many stories. I would like to provide a listening center for students to revisit favorite books.

I teach 24 energetic, eager, and creative kindergarten kids in an inner city school.

The one thing they always sit still for is a new story and they let their imaginations soar. Then, as any 5 or 6 year old will do, they ask for me to read it again. I would love to accommodate them and read all day but, as any teacher bound to a rigorous curriculum might say, I tell them, "maybe after lunch or tomorrow."

My Project

Please help me get 1 wireless headphone set so I can provide a listening center so my students can independently listen to their favorite stories again and again. They will be enjoying the stories as they develop listening skills and new vocabulary. As they listen, they will follow along with the book and improve their concepts of print and reading fluency. This wireless headphone set can be set up with our classroom CD player or our class iPad. I can even record myself or students reading and they can listen to each other read. Please give the gift of storytelling, inspiration and independence.

If you choose to support this project, you will be providing kindergarten students with a place in our classroom to revisit and re-read favorite stories again and again.

They will learn to be more independent plus develop reading skills by following along with their favorite stories. You might even be inspiring them to tell their own stories for others to hear. Thank You!
