My Students

My students and I are blessed to learn at a beautiful, rural school in South Carolina. While the outside may look like your typical elementary school, you will quickly feel the difference once you walk through our front entrance. We are on the positive energy bus. My students are learning that they can drive their own "bus" by creating a positive vision and "driving" with a purpose. They are learning to transform their negativity and "fuel their ride" and others with positive energy!

While many of my students have faced obstacles and challenges in and out of school, they are learning the power of positive energy!

We celebrate success as a classroom family and encourage each other to try our best every day. If you entered our classroom, you would hear us excited to learn by shouting, "Yes, Yes, Yes" and cheering our classmates on with our Energy Bus Cheer, "You're Awesome, You're the Best, You Rock!" We have worked hard to create a positive, supportive classroom family where all students are encouraged and supported to try something new. My students love to learn and share their learning with others. It is truly a great place to learn!

My Project

My students love to be able to listen to stories, songs and rhymes. At the end of the day, if time allows, they are usually always asking me to turn on a story so they can just listen!

When a student is a listening to a story, they are building their vocabulary, hearing a fluent reader, learning to decode unknown words and learn to enjoy reading as a source of pleasure instead of a skill.

In a typical day in my classroom, students rotate through a variety of reading stations. They will work with me in a small group setting on specific reading skills and then be able to practice those reading skills in various stations. This listening station will allow up to 6 students listen to a story at a time. Students will be able to listen to a story for enjoyment while they are being exposed to important reading skills. Hearing a book read aloud allows a child to see how the words on a page can become alive when read with expression/. They will hear narrators read fluently and with silly voices and dramatic enhancements. Students will be able to listen to their favorite books many times. The more that they listen. the greater the chance that they will learn new vocabulary words. The learning opportunities are endless!

I have always had listening to stories or songs as a station, unfortunately what we have been using stopped working last school year. With your help, you will be supporting the sweetest kindergarten class in South Carolina and helping them learn that reading is fun!
