My Students

My students are low-income (Title I) English Learners who have overcome personal hardships in an impoverished community. Despite their challenging home lives, my students are passionate about school and are driven to succeed. Our classroom is a project based learning environment, filled with young leaders who aspire to make a difference in the world around them. We focus on fostering independence, responsibility, and tolerance.

Our classroom is the destination of a multi-cultural student population with a drive to "be the change you wish to see in the world." My students are amazingly strong, bright, and resilient, and they inspire me to do my best each and every day.

My Project

My students are English Learners and struggling readers. A comprehensive listening center will allow them to develop literacy via active listening to fluent English, while physically reading along and turning the pages of popular grade-level picture books. While using the center, my students will have the opportunity to hear fluent reading modeled aloud as they make connections between auditory and visual queues in text.

Literacy is at the core of all academia and human culture-- developing reading and listening skills will help my students to be successful at school and in the world at large.

My students need this center to strengthen their reading and listening skills; it will help support them in becoming more proficient English readers, speakers, writers, and listeners. Thank you for your consideration and support!
