My Students

A typical day in my classroom starts with singing in Spanish, and then moves forward with us trying to make daily connections with each other while staying in the target language. Every day we are moving, speaking, reading, writing, and learning!

My students are a highly motivated group of young adults that see the value of education.

Our student population is extremely diverse, but the reality is they have very little exposure to any Spanish speakers or Spanish speaking cultures. They do, however, understand the importance of supporting one another and lifting others up while they strive to become knowledgeable global citizens. Our school embraces rigorous academics with strong support systems to help our students find success.

My Project

I have a classroom set of Chromebooks. I teach Spanish 1 and 193 eighth graders rotate through my class. My class sizes range from 30 to 38 students. Allowing each student to have a pair of headphones (plus a couple extra just in case) would allow me to incorporate more learning opportunities for each student. Some lessons may require them to watch a video and take notes or respond in writing.

Being able to get practice listening to other Spanish speakers besides myself is such a gift.

It acclimates my students to hearing accents of other people from within the language classroom. The possibilities would be endless if each student had a set of headphones.

Having a class set of headphones that they can use with their Chromebook would also allow me to set up numerous lessons and learning centers to meet each of their learning needs.
