Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Imagine a movie in your mind, is what we tell our students as we read to them everyday. Our students love to be read to. We do not, however, have a listening station during our station (small group) time. Having a listening station will help our students get excited about reading.

Our students attend a Title I school in New York.

Ninety-eight percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Our school also offers a healthy snack. Our school is located in a high poverty area. I am a special educator in an ICT classroom (Integrated Co-Teaching). In an ICT classroom, there are two teachers and the students consist of general education and special needs students. I am the special educator in the class aforementioned, but I support the needs of ALL of our students.

My Project

My students need a listening center and My First I Can Read! Read-Alongs readers, Danny and the Dinosaur, and Little Bear's Friend. My students would use the listening station every day during our station time. This would enable them to listen to a story while following along in their own book. This will help my students improve their reading and comprehension skills tremendously. Aforementioned, there are students in my class that have special needs. This will be a great resource for my struggling readers!

The listening center will be a great asset to our ICT modeled class where small group work is imperative. We greatly appreciate your help in providing the listening center and small group read-alongs to enhance our learning!
