Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Sometimes students come in with a deficit. They may not have had many opportunities to read before school, they may have taken longer to learn to read or learn the language. For whatever reason, they are behind.

This happens a lot in my school.

My students come into 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade not quite reading at the level they should be. It's especially hard for their parents, the majority of whom live in one of the two neighboring projects, to find the time to help push them forward.

My Project

That leaves myself, and the other teachers struggling to find ways to help push these kids. When there is such a large gap between readers and non-readers, it is especially hard to find engaging activities for these students to work on, while they wait for the teacher to help. Listening centers are the perfect tool to counteract this! They allow students to listen to a lesson and complete an activity on their own, independently while waiting for me to get to them. There will be no more wasting time, and non-readers will always be engaged and learning!

With these materials, I will be able to set up listening activity centers with headphones and a junction box so my students can learn independently, and not feel left out during reading activities!
