it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Many of my scholars are from low-income families where a second language is spoken. These students benefit from listening to English to increase their vocabulary as well as develop language proficiency. Additionally, listening centers can provide a low-stress area in the classroom for all students where they can work on their listening skills. When students actively listen, they have better comprehension and retention of the text. This increases their ability to participate in classroom discussions and lessons. Materials in the center can reinforce classroom instruction, such as recordings of a book read aloud and new vocabulary or sight words that we are working on.
Most of my scholars come from homes with few books and are not read to consistently.
Just listening to stories read aloud in English and/or Spanish increases their enjoyment of reading which, in turn, encourages them to learn how to read. Listening centers encourage active participation and engagement with a text. When students actively listen, they have better comprehension. All in all, a Listening Center is one of the best centers for scholars to learn independently!
