My Students

My students are amazing. I know, you probably hear this a lot but seriously, they are phenomenal. They attend a Title I school in the Bronx where they each receive free breakfast and lunch daily. Our students often have the odds stacked against them but they do not let this define them.

Our students are creative, innovative and full of life, but this is only part of what makes them so phenomenal.

Our kids are continually defying odds. We have the unique ability of being a public school with a mission to help the world around us in regards to wildlife conservation. Even in an urban setting our students are constantly coming up with ideas to not only help get the word out about species in peril but also to help in their own neighborhoods.

My Project

This year I have the pleasure of teaching a Conservation Science course where my students and I are learning about the world around us. We started the year by watching some of the Planet Earth series and completing projects on locations of the series. This is something that I soon discovered my students loved doing. Having this visual representation is something that has really struck a cord with them.

Most of my students have never been outside of the Bronx and watching these documentaries will allow them to visually explore wildlife and the world around them.

In watching documentaries like Frozen Planet and Life my class will be able to see things they have never seen before; in turn instilling a further love of conservation and the planet in them. With the toner we will be able to print out images in color for their projects so that they will be more engaging for their peers when the posters are hanging in the hallways.
