My Students

My students have a variety of personalities that make teaching fun! I have the shy, the outgoing, the sporty, the humorous, the bookwork, and the observer - just to name a few. Each coming to school with different needs in learning. I try and incorporate a variety of learning strategies to make sure that each need and level is being met.

They challenge each other in every aspect of classroom learning, whether it be in math or writing or reading.

They love being actively engaged in learning with hands-on projects and encourage each other when they realize the differences.

My Project

Storyworks Jr. is a magazine that provides students with fiction, nonfiction, paired texts, poetry, and more. The articles are engaging and have great illustrations that keep the students' attention! Also included with the subscription is an outstanding teacher's guide that provides step-by-step lesson plans, along with resources that promote close reading and critical thinking! We were able to use the samples that I had this past year to complete a Text Surgery that the students absolutely had a blast in participating!! Little did they know they were learning while completing this activity!!

Reading and writing skills will be boosted with hands-on learning through the Can Do games!

These games will be used during the independent literacy centers time where students can use what they have been taught in small groups and apply this knowledge! Students will develop skills in reading literature and informative text, along with developing vocabulary and many other language skills. Having pre-made activities allows me more time with students and less time with preparing.
