Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am requesting hygiene products and school supplies to restock the Lion Pantry at our high school. The FFA advisor and myself have paired up with our FFA and FCCLA organizations to open a Lion Pantry that is open everyday. We stock the pantry with shampoo, body wash, deodorant, tooth brushes and paste, notebook paper, colored pencils, markers, pens and other supplies to assist our students.
Our Lion Pantry was a hit last year and we need your help to make it successful this year.
Our school mascot is a lion so that is why we call it the lion pantry. The pantry is actually 6 top lockers in the middle hallway where the students can stop by between classes and get supplies they may need and cannot afford. The pantry is for all of our high school students regardless of economic statue, color, or grade level.
Our organizations are in charge of restocking the pantry. The students in our classes have learned a whole lot about giving to others and providing daily needs to people who may not be as fortunate as themselves. They are also learning organizational skills by stocking and keeping an inventory of items we need and which items we run out of quicker than others. Some of these students are using the pantry themselves! One child asked if she could get two deodorants and I said of course she wanted one for home and her backpack in case she forgot to put it on before getting on the bus. They do not have to ask to get the items. The pantry is not "guarded" so the kids don't have to be embarrassed about taking the items that they need.
