This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school, which is well rooted in the community and dedicated to its’ development and prosperity, is reflective of the community it services. The Longwood Academy enrolls nearly 700 students in grades prek-5th with diverse ranges of ability, culture, language, and ethnicity. In our school building we house students in the general education, special education services, English as new a new language, Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program, and Autism program. The programs and after school activities (like our Disney Musical in Schools theater program) are reflective of our inclusive school mission and vision and culture. All students and stakeholders are encouraged to participate. As we say in Disney rehearsals: Everyone plays--and have serious fun!

My Project

These materials will help bring our second year of Disney musical theater to life. Our students are a part of every aspect of creating the show, which is The Lion King this year. Students have roles in the cast, backstage, crew, art, choreography and directing. To make the most visual and immersive experience, we need various materials to set the scene in the African Savannah. The paint and backdrops will be used to create scenery, while foam boards and jewelry sets will be used to make props. Spotlights, streamers, and walkie-talkies will authenticate our students in the crew and help our show run smoothly. All of these necessary tools will help our students become true thespians!
