This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a math intervention teacher in Garland, TX. I see students ranging from 1st to 5th grade who are struggling in math.

Our school has a high percentage of students who qualify for free or reduced lunch.

We also have many bilingual and ESL students. They are eager to learn, but have not had opportunities to develop math concepts and need lots of hands-on activities to support them as they transition to more formal math concepts. I use manipulatives and visuals to help them grasp the concepts of skip counting, adding, and subtracting. When they can move the items around, it helps them understand the problems.

My Project

Number lines are great resources because they teach so many important math concepts! We use number lines to teach skip counting, which leads to multiplication and division. With younger students, we use the number lines to help those struggling with addition and subtraction. The number line activity chart is a very useful item because it has the flexibility to be used across many grade levels. It can be set up for primary students to count, add, or subtract. The older students can use it to find patterns, to skip count, and to multiply or divide. The number lines will be a resource that my students can use every day in their math lessons.

Donating to this project will help some of the students who are struggling the most with difficult concepts.

It will also allow these students to have access to many great manipulatives that will reinforce concepts needed for success in school and in life.
