Fun, spunky, outgoing Spanish teacher looking to take her students on a musical journey through history. I teach at an all girl inner city public high school. Our mission is to prepare all of our students to be successful in college and the professional world. Our girls are extremely curious and talented, and love incorporating music, dance and spoken word into their learning.

Since we are a small school that is growing during times of economic hardship, it is difficult (if not impossible) to be able to offer our students enriching classes and activities such as art, music and dance every year. That is why I work hard to incorporate these elements into my lesson plans in order to keep my students interested in school and allow them to express themselves artistically. My students are always complimenting my class as being "the most creative" and now I am working hard to offer more interdisciplinary approaches to creative learning, in order to inspire other teachers to do the same in their classrooms.

This semester I would like to take the 11th and 12th grade students from my school to a performance at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. The performance is named "Lincoln, Armstrong to Obama" and engages students in a musical journey throughout US History. While reciting lines from important speeches and learning the history of jazz through Louis Armstrong's recordings, students will be able to discover a new way of looking at and interpreting history. This performance will incorporate material not only relevant to History and Spanish classes, but also Music History, Language Arts and ESL!

Here is where wonderful donors like you become so important. Since our school does not have a budget for such trips, we need your help funding the price of the tickets for our students to attend this enriching performance. With your help, you will allow students to enjoy learning and enhance their skills in many different subject areas... an experience that will change the way they view history and music. Help prepare these girls for college through music and performance!
