My Students

Each year, our performing arts program (Choir, Drama, Dance) puts together several assemblies and performances, culminating in a huge spring musical involving 1/3 or our student body. Because we have no way to record our performances, our students would like a video camera to help their skills grow.

Our students attend a high performing K-8 urban school.

Since their school is so successful, it does not see the same funding that the poorly performing schools receive. Due to PA’s drastic budget cuts, it is safe to say that they will see even less funding for the upcoming school year. Our students are passionate about everything they do, both in the classroom and after school. Many of our students come from backgrounds of extreme poverty and all of our student receive free lunch. Our students achieve at an extremely high level, on the stage, the playing field and especially in the classroom, with very outdated or little technological equipment at their disposal. More than ¾ of our students are involved in extra curricular activities, both in the creative arts and athletics. The students at our school want to be successful and all have very high aspirations for themselves.

My Project

Having a digital video camera at the disposal of both the performing arts program & the athletic program will allow several teachers to better teach students the skills they need to achieve. Being able to see their own performance, will allow students to incorporate changes, analyze form, and critique performances. Our students will be able to use this camera in the graphic arts, music technology and gifted classrooms, learning how to edit video clips, incorporate original video into multimedia presentations, and even to write and direct their own skits and short films. Student digital video projects can also be entered into our district’s Technology Fair, where our students have already been extremely successful in other categories.

Our school community provides a rich educational environment for all of our students.

In addition to wonderful educational opportunities, a video camera will allow our school to have a digital record of all of the wonderful assembly programs put on for the holidays, African American History, Student of the Month, spring musical, and our Olympics, all of which encompass our entire student body in one for or another.
