My Students

Walt Disney said, "Around here, we don't look backwards for very long. We keep moving forward, opening new doors and doing new things." The implementation of the common core standards have generated a more rigorous STANDARD for students. They need to build on what they have to embrace the future.

Our school is unlike most schools in NYC.

It is a K-12 school that provides students and their families the opportunity to remain in one school throughout their educational journey. Students are randomly selected through a lottery. Our students come from all different neighborhoods, socioeconomic backgrounds, and experiences. The students in my room are active in their communities. They are athletes, cheerleaders, scouts, dancers, musicians, etc. Technology is also an important component in their lives. Many of them utilize the computer and iPad for academics and leisure. I try to create an environment in our room that emits energy. The majority of our day is spent in the meeting area. The meeting area consists of the library, Smart Board, carpet, laptop, and dry erase easel. Students gather here as a whole class and within small groups throughout the day. The ELMO TT will be a valuable addition to our class.

My Project

Move over Heidi Klum! This document camera will capture the next top models. The Elmo TT will enable our class to showcase current pieces side by side with a rubric. Once connected with the Smartboard, the class will be able to constructively evaluate peer work and record revisions. Visual and auditory learners will benefit from the camera. The projected images and the many features of the ELMO help these learners "break down" tasks. This model also has an option to save images and documents for further references. Pieces could be saved and revisited at a later time. This could include student directed meetings and small teacher directed groups. Tactile learners could model and record their problem solving strategies. Play back will enable them to review and build upon their work. All students will be able "to revisit their steps along the way." This especially is helpful for multi-step math problems and writing pieces.

Walt Disney went on to say, "..opening new doors and doing new things because we're curious." This document camera will open new possibilities for our class.

Students will utilize this technology to gain a deeper understanding of the task at hand. It will assist in the questions, "How did we get to this point and how can we build upon what we have?"
