My Students

Leadership is a class like no other. From the moment students walk in the door, to the second they leave for their next class, this class is all about thinking outside of the box, taking risks, and above all, making a difference in the world around them.

My students attend a large public middle school in beautiful California.

Leadership students demonstrate outstanding character, and a strong desire to learn, grow and inspire change in the world around them. They come from all walks of life, each bringing a unique set of experiences and beliefs that allows them to connect with their community. Responsible for promoting school spirit and philanthropy, and encouraging the student body to be their best self each and every day, my students work hard to encourage students to make good choices, and to get involved in a wide range of community service events and opportunities. Leadership students, learn by doing and know the importance of taking initiative and problem solving in the 21st century.

My Project

Currently, our classroom is equipped with two computers that are over 10 years old and unable to run current video editing software. These computers run incredibly slow, making it near impossible for students to use their limited time in class efficiently. Leadership students are responsible for creating weekly announcements and commercials that communicate service learning opportunities to school, however to edit these weekly commercials, my students must push into other classrooms, or rely on non-leadership students to create videos using Leadership footage. A classroom laptop will allow a larger number of my students to work with editing software, and will allow them to experiment with how music, graphics, and transitions can enhance media advertising.

Donations to this project would allow my students the opportunity to work together to upload, create, and edit short videos in our classroom.

On a broader scale, my students will learn valuable technological skills that will not make them more marketable in the working world, but will allow them to play a more active role in communicating service events within their community.
