Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are currently living in a remarkable time where my students are dealing with new stresses and concerns that are unprecedented. Their home lives and school lives have changed and they need engaging lessons with exciting material to keep them participating in their virtual learning.

My students deserve an incredible learning experience, despite the distance learning hurdles!

In their primary years, students are said to be learning to read. Now, as third graders, is when they are reading to learn. This is a crucial year in the educational lives of my students as they are more independent and able to exceed expectations when properly motivated ❤️

My Project

During this time of Covid 19, we have physical distance, but we don't have to have emotional distance. As I set up my online teaching environment with plans to make creative and detailed video conferences and lesson recordings...

my goal is to provide my students comfort and consistency amid the disruptions caused by school closings and social distancing.

The green screen will allow me to change the back drop from my cluttered home into settings that will be imaginative as well as engaging to enhance the learning environment. The ipad will allow me easy remote access to online recording programs so that videos can be made and uploaded to flipgrid, youtube, and classdojo for students and parents to watch. The beauty of this equipment is that once we return to school, these same tools can be used to create a "video booth" in which students will be able to continue infusing technology with our class projects and assignments. Students will use the green screen to create a backdrop to match their earth science or research projects. They will be able to use the ipad to record themselves giving oral responses to questions of the day or as an emotional check in. In this day of selfies and web blogs, by infusing technology like this into the classroom we are encouraging their creativity and increasing their engagement levels across curriculums! Imagine a group of students being able to dress up as a historical figure and give an oral report with a backdrop of that time period, self recorded and edited, and then shared with parents and other students... these are the kind of projects that these tools would allow students to imagine and make a reality.
