My Students

John Quincy Adams once said, "If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more, you are a leader." My Leadership students are responsible for promoting school spirit and philanthropy, and encouraging the student body to be their best self each and every day.

My students attend a large public middle school in beautiful California.

As part of the selection for our Leadership class, my students have demonstrated outstanding character, and a strong desire to learn, grow, and inspire change in the world. They come from all walks of life, each bringing a unique set of experiences and beliefs that allows them to connect with their diverse student body. My students work hard to not only promote participation in a variety of school and community service learning projects, but they also encourage students to make good choices, and to be productive citizens in their community. Through hands on experience, my students learn first hand the importance of taking initiative and problem solving as they negotiate the challenges of being a young person in the 21st century.

My Project

My students need two digital camcorders and two tripods to create and communicate school-wide announcements and community service efforts. These digital camcorders and tripods will be used to further our ability to communicate service learning projects to our student body as a whole. Currently, we are very limited in our ability to film videos that adequately explain why community service is important and how local efforts can truly impact the lives of those in need. Specifically, these cameras will be used to create weekly video spots about upcoming events and charity drives, as well as monthly videos highlighting character education and what it means to demonstrate good character at school and in the community. By creating more media spots, students will learn how to communicate through mass media, in hopes of encouraging our school community to get involved and learn by doing.

My students are deeply motivated to make a difference.

Donations to this project would allow them the freedom to be more creative, to challenge themselves, and to encourage their peers to get involved in the world around them. On a broader scale this technology would provide us the opportunity to involve more of the student body in Leadership activities so that they too, can experience the satisfaction of helping others and being an active member of their community.
