My Students

I am an inclusion early education special education teacher in an eTK general education class of 24 students. 8 of my students are students with identified disabilities who are taught alongside their typical peers (children without disabilities). I want to provide my students with a wonderful learning environment full of hands-on experiences that encourage them to use their creative minds while learning core concepts that will prepare them for the rigor of Common Core Curriculum.

My school is located in a high poverty neighborhood and students participate in the Free and Reduced Lunch Program.

A lack of funding requires that teachers depend on the generosity of others who support public education and spend their own money to provide many of the resources for their students.

My Project

Young children learn through play. They learn best with they are simply engaging with materials they enjoy using. One of my favorite toys when I was a kid was my Lite-Bright. I could play with it for hours. I didn’t know that I was exploring light and color or that I was learning about scientific inquiry. I just thought I was playing. I am asking for a light board and a variety of translucent manipulatives that my students can use to engage in scientific observations of cause and effect, create mathematical patterns and groupings, and most importantly discuss all they learning with their classmates.

Children learn best when they are engaged in hands on experiences that provide moments of wonder, opportunities to examine and explore their ideas, and time to play alongside their peers.

Early Education teachers who really understand how young children learn aspire to provide learning opportunities that are open-ended activities. It is within these lessons that children learn scientific concepts, mathematical foundations of number sense and classification, as well as learn to attend and persist at a task. I believe these materials will inspire my students' creativity, curiosity, and interest in learning.

Your generosity will make all this fun possible and your donations bring us closer to bringing these awesome materials to our young learners! Thank you for your support of our public school classroom. You are joining us in building a community of learners where all children have access to an engaging learning experience!
