Help Mrs. Munoz

I teach Film Study and English for 9-12 grade in a Chicago public urban high school. Eighty percent of our students receive free or reduced lunch.

Due to the continual changing technology it is difficult for urban public schools to keep up with the new equipment that is available for videotaping. Students have a strong desire during the course of the year to videotape their own movies, however students currently do not have access to this type of equipment.

Students who take this course have an interest in getting into the field of film or acting. Students view Oscar winning films throughout the year and study directors and producers. They also look at how sets are designed for effect. As a culminating project students would love to have the opportunity to put together their own film. They would pose as writers, directors, and producers of their own films. Students would enjoy this process and learn a great deal by experiencing what it takes to make a film. Hands-on learning is the most effective teaching strategy. For this project, the students need a durable video camera so that they can use it to videotape their own movies. Students would work collaboratively to produce a film. The final culmination of writing, directing, producing and acting in their own film would be the ultimate experience for the students.

You will make it possible for students to go through the process of writing, producing, directing and videotaping a piece of work that they will have put together as a team. They will realize the work and dedication that goes into making a film from start to finish. It will give them a better understanding of the art of film. They will view film differently through this experience that you will help come to life.
