Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are wonderful, they come to school and have big dreams. My students are from a very inner-city area. 95% of them are low income and qualify for a free or reduced lunch. The school is 98% Latino and many parents struggle to know how to help students with their education. At the Charter school I work at, we support parents with workshops and courses to help them better equipped to help our students transition into higher education. A world of opportunity exists and I want my students to know that the key to it is education.

My Project

The Digital Camera will be used by students in and out of my classroom in many ways. It will be used by students to prepare projects and presentations where they will be able to place themselves in both video and photo into science projects. I will use the video and microphone to make helpful videos for my students that they may view in and outside of class, these videos can be used by students as a guide or a independent check for understanding by students. During Labs, video assistance is invaluable as they work with various equipment, they can see how it properly works. As the ASB advisor at the school, my students are responsible for the daily announcements, with this camera, they will move from audio announcements to a news show video format that will be viewed daily by all campus students. This camera will provide so much for so many of my students.

Todays students are connected to video in so many ways, this will help them connect what they are learning with their everyday lives.

I have made tutorial videos in the past using my phone as it is an excellent tool for english language learners as well as unsure learners to go back when they need to. Unfortunately, my students were unable to hear or see me clearly in the recording. The new Camera will record in High definition and will also have a directional microphone so students will be able to see and hear what is going on clearly. Students will learn how to make videos as they document their own investigations and learn to make a news show. I have big dreams for this camera, but I have bigger dreams for my students. Thank You!
