My Students

My students are a diverse group of kids. They enjoy completing projects via technology. It has the power to transform mundane learning tasks into innovative projects. They have a thirst to access a myriad of information. Technology puts it at their fingertips!

Our school is a suburban elementary located within the second largest school district.

Like many other districts, we are suffering from serious financial problems, so our school was unable to budget for classroom purchases. I ask my students' parents for basic classroom supplies and I am fortunate to receive donations from most families. There continues to be other needed supplies. Donors are the only hope we have for our students to completely access the curriculum in a memorable and meaningful way. My classroom is comprised of a mixed population. Many come from single parent homes where some parents work odd hours or double shifts. Despite the challenges faced by my students, both parents and students are determined to succeed and willing to work hard. My students' efforts are evident in much of their work and most are achieving grade level standards.

My Project

Art instruction typically includes paper, paint, and brushes. Fortunately, technology has advanced art in innovative ways. With various websites and applications, it will be empowering students through art. Students can learn about different cultures and be inspired to create visual art projects that embed the artistic devices used by that particular culture. They can create designs on their Ancient Greek Pottery, or develop their own mythical figure. They can also use websites where they can develop their own movie or comic strip based on a certain book, or unit of study. Additionally, applications such as Animoto will allow students to animate their stories. Having a Lenovo 2-in-1 touchscreen device will allow students to work collaboratively on these projects. Additionally, students can conduct Internet research, view primary sources, and explore educational applications. Students will no longer view technology as a device for games but as a vehicle to transform the future of art.

Technology will allow my students to express their artistry and allow me to continue advancing my student's education.

We can transform learning via technology. It is an important component of education today. I can teach humanities in a hands-on way. Students can access a plethora of resources using a 2-in-1 Lenovo, IT will help create the next generation of directors, animators, or visual artists.
