Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students in our school are a lot like other kids. They are curious, eager to learn, and like having fun. What sets our students apart from other students is their economic status, and the effect it has on their education. Our school is 99% free lunch, and many of the students are newly-arrived immigrants.

The quality of a child's education should not be determined by their economic status, but unfortunately it often is.

As a result of their economic status, many of our students do not have access to supplies that other students do, and this is especially true in the area of technology. Just like other students, our students deserve a world-class education that includes access to technology. Using computers at school is often the only time our students interact with technology as many of them do not have computers, or internet access, at home.

My Project

The materials I am requesting will benefit the entire school. The computers in each classroom in our school are vulnerable during lightning storms, which we constantly experience.

Surge protectors will enable teachers to protect their classroom computers due to the fact that a lightning rod no longer does.

In addition, the surge protectors will be used to protect the laptop carts which house 75 laptops.

It is vital that the technology at our school is protected so the students have access to working computers. Our students are required to use computers for district-mandated reading and math programs. We are a STEM school and students are beginning to use computers for 3D printing and other scientific programs. Teachers are beginning to incorporate technology into their lessons as we strive to produce 21st century learners. Keeping our computers in working order will keep us moving into the future!
