Lighting the Way in Reading

My Project

Our students come from diverse backgrounds and interact with one another with understanding and support. They rise to meet high expectations despite the many odds against them. For example, a significant percentage of my students are English language learners for whom reading can especially be a challenge. This reading experience can be a stress-free environment for language learners and all students at our school. This project will benefit all 400 plus students.

Students will choose a book, grab a mini flashlight, and find a cozy spot to read.

The goal of this project is to provide opportunities for students to read for fun. Their days are filled with lessons and tests. These activities are important, but fostering a love for reading can get lost. As a school, we want to bring the joy and fun of reading to our students and slow down the pace of a busy school day. Lights will be turned down and blinds will be closed. Teachers and students will set and agree upon guidelines for all students to be safe and have fun reading. We hope that students will develop a love for reading for fun and find this time relaxing and rejuvenating.
