Lighting the Way for Engaging Learning

My Project

For this project, I am asking for two portable light panels and correlating manipulatives in order to provide engaging opportunities for students to explore many of our core subject areas. The letter tiles will allow students to apply their knowledge of phonics in order to create words in a fun new way. The shape tiles will allow students to create patterns while exploring different mathematical shapes. The different effects the light panel has on everyday objects will allow students to scientifically explore the ideas of translucent, transparent, and opaque objects in our world.

Not only will these tools provide opportunities to meet these core subject areas, but they will also be available to be used during our Purposeful Play time each day.

Our implementation of Purposeful Play allows students to engage in inquiry choice play. I use this time to promote critical thinking skills in our young scholars while tracking the meaningful academic connections that the students are authentically making through their playtime. Using the light panels to explore x-rays will allow students to engage in meaningful dramatic play during our Imagination Learning Area. This will spark students' love for science and allow them to see themselves as future doctors, veterinarians, dentists, and much more. These impactful connections to the world around them are a critical piece of a successful Purposeful Play environment.
