"If you can dream it, you can do it." is a philosophy that the learners in my classroom leave with. When they first come to my kindergarten classroom, some of them come with no educational background. They know zero letters, no numbers and they may not even be able to write their own name. We spend time together as a class, building an environment where it is encouraged to take chances, explore and make mistakes. They will be the first to tell you that making mistakes just means you're learning.
Kindergarten students are naturally thinkers and problem solvers when we, as teachers, allow them to be.
My Project
The light table accessories will enhance my light table center and enable my students to explore concepts in ELA, math and science. Letter tiles can be used for letter recognition, spelling sight words or writing short sentences. The translucent shape tiles can be used to sort by size, shape or color. The building blocks will offer a new way for students to experiment with properties of math and science. How excited would you, as a kindergartener, be to look at x-rays of a body? As they use their imaginations to design and build, my students will be getting hands-on experience with measuring, counting, planning and problem solving.
