Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a first year early childhood special education teacher in a pre-school collaborative classroom. My students are young learners with various abilities. They thrive on active, hands-on, engaging activities that challenge them to think. My young scholars come to school with excitement and ready to grow both academically and personally. My students are such a joy to teach!

I am determined to challenge my students on a daily basis while making it enjoyable.

My goal this new school year is to incorporate more hands on learning as opposed to digital technology. I believe that if I incorporate a variety of learning strategies and alternative techniques, I will ensure the best learning options to meet each student's need right where they are.

My Project

Light tables are not just for x-ray technicians, artists, or photographers. They are found in many classrooms too. Adults and students are drawn to light tables for discovery and play because the light on the surface illuminates the materials resting on top. The light can be changed into different colors depending on the preference of the students. The interest can be utilized to create opportunities to practice math and fine motor skills on the light up table activities using translucent accessories.

Light up tables cost hundreds of dollars which makes them a luxury that we can not afford in our class.

To provide my students with multiple ways to practice their fine motor skills, I spend my free time making play dough and setting up sensory bins with materials I have purchased at Michaels, Walmart, and Target. Having a light up table will allow me to save time on constantly having to search for the perfect materials for my students.
