My students do their best work in a calming classroom environment. Students need light filters and alternative lighting to help with providing this calming environment. Traditional fluorescent light tubes without filters can cause student and teacher health issues, such as students to suffer headaches, which contribute to student eyestrain, anxiety, stress, poor sleep cycles, and the effects of UVA and UVB light exposure. Untreated fluorescent light tubes can harm children with a low tolerance to fluorescent lighting, such as students with ADHD and sensory issues.
Researchers have found that using unfiltered cool-white-fluorescent lighting in most American schools contributes to student bodily stress, hyperactivity, problems with attention, and other poor learning experiences.
Students are increasingly exposed to the light emitted from screens and the harsh glare from fluorescent lighting. I would like my classroom to be a space that is soothing and promotes productivity and well being.
