Light Up My Art

Help me give my students lightboxes to help them transfer images from rough drafts to final designs. In my class with the Special needs students the light boxes will be used for sensory activities and hand-eye coordination.

My Project

So many of the worlds students have been trained that there is only one right answer to any question. They are also the generation who have had instant answers and results at their fingertips since birth. We are finding more and more often that there is an underlying fear in students to make mistakes. As well as that if something can not be right the first time, more effort will not make it better.

Using the light boxes will allow students to transfer and trace images and help them see that taking the time to make small adjustments to their work can make a larger difference, and be more efficient than throwing away the mistake and starting over.

This tool will be helpful in building confidence and efficiency in students as they work on original designs.

During my planning time, I also work with nonverbal, special needs students. It is my hope that these light boxes can be used to help them practice tracing simple shapes and words, and build hand-eye coordination. I also plan to use these for sensory activities like sand painting and as back lighting for sensory bags and gel paintings.
