Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a Transitional Kindergarten teacher, my goal is to create a classroom environment that sparks curiosity, fosters creativity, and encourages hands-on learning for my young students. One tool that can significantly enhance their learning experience is a **light table**.

A light table provides an engaging and visually stimulating way for students to explore a variety of materials, including colored shapes, translucent blocks, and other objects that can be placed on the table to explore light, colors, and patterns.

The interactive nature of this tool supports **fine motor skills**, **problem-solving**, **critical thinking**, and **collaborative play**. It also offers opportunities for hands-on learning in subjects like **math, science, art, and literacy**, as students can manipulate objects to explore concepts in a tactile and visual way.

**Why I Need This Light Table:**

In my TK class, we focus on building foundational skills that children will use throughout their educational journey. The light table will be a perfect addition to my classroom for the following reasons:

- **Visual Stimulation**: The light helps children focus on the details of materials and promotes visual and sensory exploration.

- **Promoting Creativity**: Students can use the light table to create patterns, designs, and stories, fostering their creativity and imagination.

- **Hands-On Learning**: It provides an opportunity for kinesthetic learners to manipulate objects, making abstract concepts more concrete.

- **STEM Engagement**: The light table is an excellent tool to introduce young students to basic concepts of light, color, and shadows, sparking early interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math).

- **Fine Motor Skills**: By using the light table to arrange objects and manipulate materials, students strengthen their hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills.
