My Students

The students in my classroom are three, four and five-year-olds.

My little learners are eager and enthusiastic about coming to school to learn through play.

Our school maintains 20 classrooms that serve over 700 at-risk, preschool-age children and their families on a daily basis. At-risk means that through a developmental screening process a child was found to have one or more characteristics that may adversely impact their readiness for kindergarten and further school success. One of these at-risk factors is low income and the majority of our school population is low income. Although the majority of our families are low-income we represent all socio-economic levels.

My Project

My students love to play at the light table during discovery time. The light table is used for open play, academic learning, scientific discovery, and sensory integration. The Light Table Manipulative Center encourages a range of developmental skills such as fine motor development, hand-eye coordination, color recognition and much more.

Fun Ways to learn about colors and shapes.

Understanding colors and shapes is an important part of early childhood education impacting the learning process for different subjects such as math, science, language, and reading. Students express their unique perception of the world by combining various materials, shapes, colors, and techniques. Playing with colors and shapes in a new way develops imagination which is fundamental to creativity, kids will learn while playing and experimenting with translucent colored materials.

The light table encourages a range of developmental skills such as fine motor development, pre-writing skills, hand-eye coordination, color recognition and so much more! By creating an inviting learning space, students easily engage in learning activities through play without even realizing it.
