My Students

My students go to one of the few large high schools in NYC. A majority of our students (66%) come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. 52% of the students get free lunch, 15% are in the reduced lunch program. The student body makeup is 48 percent male and 52 percent female, with an 81% minority enrollment. Student population comes from a diverse background comprising of predominantly Asian/Pacific islander, Hispanic, White and Black.

My Project

Physics is fun when a deep understanding is fostered in the students. This deep understanding is more effectively achieved when students can get their hands on it. Waves is one of those abstract topic that is best learned when seen and experienced. With this refraction tank, students will get to see how light behaves like a wave and bends when entering a different medium other than air.

Students will become much more engaged if they can see and play with light bending rather than just hearing or watching a video on it.

My students are noticeably more engaged when they have hands on prop to work with when studying a concept. This will enable my students to deeply grasp concepts like Snell's Law.
